The coolest thing you’ve never done on your DS.

Batman

Like my drawing? Artistic critiques aside (be gentle!) there is one thing about this drawing that makes it special: I drew it entirely on my Nintendo DS. Colors is a homebrew drawing application that takes advantage of the DS touchscreen to provide a surprisingly satisfying portable sketchpad. You do need some sort of homebrew-friendly device, namely some sort of flash card, like the M3 Simply, which I use, or I believe the Datel Games n’ Music will work as well (don’t quote me on that). Another interesting thing is that the software will record the drawing as it is made, allowing for a movie playback. Check out the Colors Gallery and see some of the amazing art that has been done by others.

PORTAL!

HOLY WOW! FREAKING PORTAL!

Gullability is a bent spoon.

It’s always surprising just how many wide and wonderful things the internet can show you, and it’s also surprising just how far you can stray from the original topic you were browsing. Apparently there exist a set of $7250 speaker cables. Yes you heard me correctly speaker cable. I’m a firm believer of the notion that the only way that said speakercable could be worth that sort of change would be if they were the only clothing of say, Alessandra Ambrosio and I got to keep them both. But enough about my wet dreams, the story starts here.

Well-known skeptic James Randi has put up a million dollar prize to anyone who can demonstrably prove that these cables are superior to even the dubious Monster Cables. Randi is a generally cool guy and spends his time debunking all kinds of stuff, he has a neat lecture on Homeopathy I recommend you look up. Remember Uri Geller? I don’t, but he is a claimed mentalist who has bending spoons and other misdirection and sleight of hand tricks since the 70′s. Randi was one of the major skeptics that brought Uri’s trickery to light, as seen in this youtube video. Now, for the brave, look at more of the Uri videos and read the comments. For each person denouncing Geller, there is someone countering his argument, defending him, they claim that the believe in his abilities and that he is a proven psychic. I’m at a loss for words here. People actually believe this stuff? Uri Geller of all things who has been outed publicly, still managed to attract a following, thes Sylvia Browne must have a cult of her own, who I’m not going to take the time to rant about.

The internet is a truly magical place, where all the idiots, zealots, right wing, left wing, and everything in between can get together and argue over bent spoons.

The new Winamp and you.

Never being one to shy away from a public beta, and being an avid supporter of Winamp since way before they were bought by AOL, I took the plunge, and tried out the new Winamp 5.5.  I must say that the new version completely blows me away.  Of particular note is the new skin, which they are calling Winamp Bento, it’s an all-in-one skin, everything you could ever need to do to your music, available in one window.

Also, you may have noticed that Winamp finally includes support for album art, and also album art for playsforsure media devices, so I can finally ditch the creative software for my Zen and use Winamp for it exclusively.

But what really makes it a winner, was when I had the program minimized, and was studiously working, when all of a sudden, on a track change, one of these popped up over my taskbar…

… I just about died.  That’s so damn slick.
